Learn Flute in 30 Minutes

The most ancient musical instrument is the easiest too. Flute is a piece of bamboo with holes in it. You can procure one from any music shop or even make one if you have the urge. When you are the owner of a flute the rest becomes easy.

THE FLUTE
Flute is a piece of bamboo with one closed end. There will be seven to eight holes on the bamboo. One hole will be near the closed end. This hole is used to blow with your mouth. Other holes will be slightly away from the blowing hole.

HOW TO PLAY
Take the flute and hold the blowing hole adjacent to your lips in a horizontal manner and blow slightly with a position similar to a "drinking tea" position. You will be holding the flute with your both hands so that you can close the first three holes using the fingers on your left hand and the other three holes using fingers on your right hand. Thumb and small finger are not used for closing the holes. You can balance the flute horizontally using the thumbs, small fingers and your lips. While blowing the fingers should close the holes tightly.

THE NOTES
The sounds produced by blowing are called notes. We can make eight notes in the primary stage. The notes are produced according to the following.

1. Doh (Sa in Indian music) is produced by blowing when you close all the holes

2.Re (ri )is a higher note produced by leaving the last hole (nearest to the open end of the flute) open..

3.Mi (ga) is produced by leaving the last two holes open.

4.Fah (ma) is produced by leaving the last three holes open

5.soh (pa) is produced by leaving the last four holes open(keeping only the two fingers of the left hand)

6.La (dha) is produced by keeping the first finger only (left hand) while balancing the flute with the thumbs and small fingers.

7.te (ni) is produced by keeping all holes open. You will have to blow slightly stronger.

8.The last note is produced by keeping all the holes closed (as in the first note) and blowing slightly harder.

YOUR FIRST SONG

you can play any song if you know the notes. Here is the notation for the song "jingle bells". The notes are given as numbers as explained above.

3 3 3, 3 3 3, 3 5 1 2 3,,,
